How to get a pet
A Chicken Egg can show up as one of the options in your Weekly Care Package (Prime accounts, first rank-up of the week). Picking it uses both of that week's rewards, so you get the egg and nothing else. You can have one pet per account.
Eggs, feed and chickens can't be traded or sold. The only way to get a pet is to raise one yourself.
Eggs aren't all the same colour. Yours can come out anywhere from reddish brown and cream to green or pale blue, with more or fewer speckles.
From egg to hen
The pet grows through four stages on its own, as long as it has food. From the chick stage on, you can name it once per stage with a free name tag.

Egg
Hatches about a week after you get it. Keep it fed: an egg that runs out of food never hatches.

Chick
You can name it and take it to the photo booth and the HatchBook. It stays with your agent in the main menu and rides on its shoulder in the loadout screen.

Pullet
Its colours come in, and it can now come with you onto maps. It only joins lobbies you host or when you queue solo.

Hen
Fully grown. A hen doesn't live forever: when it reaches the end of its life it leaves, and its photo book stays on your profile.
Hatching and tricks
When the week is up, the egg shakes and cracks open, and there are two different hatching animations. After that your pet has its own moves, from spins as a chick to playing dead once it's grown.

Feeding
Chicken Feed also comes from the Weekly Care Package and also takes both rewards. The game warns you when food is running low. If the feed runs out, the pet leaves for good. Valve's message for that: "Your pet has accepted a position elsewhere. The offer included meals."
The game tells you when your pet is getting hungry. Grab feed from your next Care Package then, don't wait until the bowl is empty.
Breeds and colours
Every egg hatches into a yellow chick. You see its breed and colour when it grows into a pullet: Catalana, Silkie or Polish, with 34 colours between them. The colour is random, some come up more often than others, and every chicken gets a small shift in shade on top.
A few colours below are in the game but no chicken can grow into them yet. They may show up in a later update.
The odds badges are estimates. The game files give each colour a weight, and we show its share within the breed, but nobody has confirmed yet that the game rolls colours this way. Colours marked Unknown odds have no weight in the files, and which breed you get isn't in the files at all. We'll check the numbers once the first pullets show up.

Photo booth and HatchBook
You can pose your pet with your CT or T agent, add hats, filters, stickers and effects, and save the photos to the HatchBook, an album with chapters for the chick, pullet and hen. Stickers you place on photos aren't used up.

Photo Studio and Picnic are always open, and Warehouse opens at the pullet stage. Each real map opens after you finish a match on it on official servers with your pullet or hen.
Fire, Lightning and Explosion are normally for hens only, but they unlock early for a pet that got burned, zapped by a Zeus or caught in a C4 blast. Chickens can take Zeus damage since this update.
Coming later
Nobody has seen these yet: the photo booth and HatchBook only open after your egg hatches, about a week after you get it. Everything here comes from the game files, and Valve can still change it.

The album has a chapter for the chick, the pullet and the hen, with pages like Just Hatched, Early Days, Park Life and Road Trip. There is also a Field Incident Report that fills in if your pet gets burned, tased or caught in a C4 blast.

Not live yet: the game has code for an Armory offer where you bid stars on a Chicken Egg. It's hidden if you already own a pet.
Rush Hour: the Rush mode
Rush is a queued 3v3 mode on a new map called Complex. Every match starts in a middle arena. Win a round and the fight moves one arena closer to the enemy castle, and win the round in their castle to take the match. The arenas in between are picked at random each match. To win a round, your team has to hold the tower when time runs out or when the other team is dead. Up to 15 rounds: first to 8 round wins, or break into the enemy castle. Rounds last 40 seconds, or 60 in the castles. $800 start money and one grenade each.
Also in the update
- New Premier map pick: one map, two maps, one map, then a random pick from those four.
- Stickers can now be applied to the C4.
- Hold reload to reload silently. It takes quite a bit longer.
- Clan tags are back for Steam group members.

Questions
- Can you trade or sell CS2 pets?
- No. The Chicken Egg, Chicken Feed and the chicken itself are untradable, so they can't be listed on the Steam Market or third-party sites.
- How long does a Chicken Egg take to hatch?
- About a week from when you get it, as long as it has feed.
- Can a CS2 pet die?
- It leaves if it runs out of food, and a hen eventually reaches the end of its life. Either way the pet is gone and you can get a new egg.
- Can I take my chicken into a match?
- Yes, from the pullet stage, in lobbies you host or when you queue solo.
